I Owe My political Life to Ida Odinga - Gladys Wanga

Homa Bay woman representative Gladys Wanga on Friday, September 20, opened up about how Raila Odinga's wife Ida Odinga mentored her into politics.

Wanga who was speaking to Citizen TV's Lilian Muli during her show 'News Makers' stated that the ODM leader's wife noted her potential early on and mentored her.

She further revealed that despite being one of the most fierce defenders of the former prime minister, she wasn't known to him before 2013.

"But I must tell you that, before I joined politics in 2013 I was not known to Raila Odinga, actually it is mama Ida who took interest and saw the potential in me," Wanga narrated.

The 38-year-old Wanga stated that Ida held her hand and mentored her into the seasoned politician she is today.

Wanga then narrated to Muli of her political journey since and how far she also intends to go.

"My first campaign was in a white NZE car that I had bought together with my husband using a loan and some people laughed at me saying 'which politician is this in a small white car'," she revealed.

She also recalled the cash donations that she got from her former colleagues and how she used the money to fuel her car and travel all the way to Homabay to campaign.

Wanga then declared her intention to succeed Homabay Governor Cyprian Awiti in the 2022 polls.

"The people of Homabay have elected me to serve them in the capacity of Woman Rep and I am focused on that, though one has to aspire so when it comes a time and they say they want to move you to a different post they will evaluate and decide," she concluded.

Finally, the legislator spoke about her bill that pushes for Cancer to be enjoined in primary healthcare that would have all medical practitioners required to check for any symptoms of the disease on patients with every visit.
