Police on Sunday, September 22, confirmed that they had gunned down one of the most wanted suspected criminals.
Confirming the incident, Likoni OCPD Benjamin Rotich stated that the suspect, Abdallah Swaleh alias Vumbi was had been terrorising residents of Bofu and Timbwani areas.
Abdallah had been arrested in March after being nabbed by police where they recovered crude weapons he was planning to use to terrorise residents.
In May, Residents of Kisauni and Likoni in Mombasa County decried rampant cases of criminal gangs who allegedly used hospital needles and syringes to terrorize them.
HAKI Africa human rights group executive director Hussein Khalid jumped to the defence of the residents and called upon County Police Commander Johnstone Ipara to conduct investigations into the issue.
He stated that residents should enjoy peace and tranquillity in the area especially during this Ramadhan period when Muslim faithful attend night prayers at various mosques.
“This new wave of criminal attacks is scary. We are demanding that police heighten security during this month of Ramadhan,” Khalid insisted.
Earlier in August, one the most wanted gangsters in the country, David Gitau Maina, was gunned down during an epic shoot out in a city estate.
"Notorious armed robber, David Gitau Kimani, who has been terrorizing residents of Tigoni, Kiambu, was today morning shot dead by detectives at his hideout," DCI tweeted in August.
Intelligence reports disseminated by Directorate of Criminal Investigations officers had revealed that Gitau was holed up in an apartment in Kariobangi South.
