Moses Kuria Attacks Uhuru's Govt After Failure of Key Project

Gatundu South Member of Parliament, Moses Kuria, on Sunday, September 29, castigated the Jubilee government for plundering from the nation's poorest population.

Speaking via his official Facebook page, the vocal legislator went on to explain how the President Uhuru Kenyatta's government stood by as the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) followed the coffee sector down the drain.

"The problem is the elite raping the peasants. First, it was an elite-led Kenya Planters Co-operative Union (KPCU) and coffee board. Now it is KTDA," he lamented.

An annual forecast by the US Department of Agriculture back in May 2019 claimed that the nation's coffee production would drop to its lowest since independence.

The report when on to project that the country’s total distribution would decline to a historic low of 830,000 bags compared to 910,000 in 2018/19.

Mr Kuria expressed concern that the tea sector - one of the country's major cash crop, was headed down the same path of doom, due to the existence of a few elite individuals who have been allowed to go about plundering the industry with reckless abandon.

"The Jubilee government has let down coffee and tea farmers. If it were maize the whole country would be at standstill," he posted on his page.

He then revealed that the Coffee and Tea Parliamentary Association will meet this week to issue definitive way forward, going on to mock legislators busy preaching 2022 politics instead of focusing on issues that affected Kenya's poorest population.

Kenyan's echoed his sentiments, "It's ironic that the moment milk leaves that farmer's gate or coffee/tea leaves the farm, the same farmer cannot afford it again. Sad." Moses Kamau posted.
