Raila Renames Prestigious Govt Stadium After Close Friend

ODM Party leader Raila Odinga has announced plans to change the name of Narok Stadium.

Citizen TV reported that Odinga made the revelation at the funeral of former Transport and Licensing Board Chairman Hassan Ole Kamwaro in Eor Enkitok, Narok on September 28, 2019.

He urged the area MCAs to work with expedience to rename the stadium to William Ole Ntimama Stadium.

The stadium underwent massive upgrade in June 2019, when it hosted the Madaraka Day celebrations.

Ntimama distinguished himself as a great agitator and defender of Maasai rights during his long political career.

His service in three different governments made him gain unrivalled popularity as king of the Maasai community.

He worked at the Ministry of National Heritage and Culture, Ministry of State in the Office of the President, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Transport and Communication and the Ministry of Local Government.

During retired President Daniel Moi's term, he was among the head of state's inner circle but switched his loyalty later on.

The late Maasai kingpin threw his weight behind Odinga, terming Moi as “one of the worst dictators who did not want anybody to go ahead of him.”

Ntimama was a great lover of books and later donated his stock to Narok Library as his heritage to his people.
