Miguna Calls Out Kenya Navy After Likoni Tragedy

Firebrand lawyer Miguna Miguna is at it again this time directing his attacks at the Kenya Navy over the Likoni accident.

The former aide to ODM leader Raila Odinga, on Wednesday, October 2, took to Facebook and questioned the professionalism of the KDF branch.

He further blamed them for the deaths of Mariam Kigenda, 35, and her daughter Amanda Mutheu, 4, when their vehicle plunged into the Likoni Channel after sliding off the ferry ramp.

"Are these civilians on a 15th Century wooden boat made in Malaba with no diving gear and no amphibian equipment our Navy?" Miguna wrote on Facebook mocking a photo of the naval officers on a boat.

The self-declared leader of the Kenya Revolutionary Front (KRF) also took a shot at the government over the equipment that the navy was using to conduct the retrieval process.

"The tragedy in Likoni could have been averted if we had competent, well-equipped Navy or Rescue Services," he added.

This comes barely a day after the government admitted to lacking proper equipment and that they had to import some from South Africa.

The family and friends of the deceased camped in Likoni and gave a passionate appeal to the government to retrieve the bodies of their loved ones.

On Tuesday, October 1, the government announced that it had suspended the ferry services in order to speed up the process of retrieving the bodies and the vehicles.

Wednesday, October 2, the channel was temporarily closed again as the bodies were never recovered on Tuesday.
