Raila's Ally in More Trouble After Latest Lawsuit

Embattled Kisumu County speaker Onyango Oloo was on Wednesday, October 2 sued by the assembly over his official vehicle.

The speaker who was impeached on September 18, after his arrest in connection with the Lake Basin Development Authority mall scandal is said to have failed to return the vehicle as ordered.

The county stated that they had reached out to Oloo but he refused to return the vehicle which they claimed to own.

This petition sought to compel Oloo to return county assets in his possession, including the vehicle.

Oloo who is the former secretary to The National Alliance (TNA) had also moved to court challenging his impeachment.

In an application filed under a certificate of urgency, Oloo sought six orders including stopping the county assembly from implementing a resolution to impeach him.

He also sought to have the court help him retain his benefits, allowances and privileges that he enjoyed as a speaker.

Kisumu County Assembly and the County Assembly Service Board were listed as respondents in the suit while acting Speaker Elisha Oraro was listed as an interested party.

Oloo claimed that the process in which they had used to remove him from office was unconstitutional and thus he was still the legitimate speaker.

On Oraro's election to replace his as a speaker, Oloo alleged that it contravened the provisions of Article 178 (1) of the Constitution arguing that Oraro was still a seating member in the chambers.
