Ex-KDF General Forced to Act After Babu Owino's Threats

The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) under the chairmanship of retired Major General Julius Karangi on Friday, October 4, was forced to respond to threats by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.

Through a letter to the MP, NSSF requested him to call off a demonstration he had announced rallying his constituents to storm their offices.

The firebrand politician took to Facebook to announce to his constituents that he had temporarily called off the demonstration after receiving a letter from NSSF.

"My office is in receipt of written communication from the Acting Managing Trustee of the NSSF and the Law Firm acting on behalf of the NSSF in the processing of land titles," Babu Owino wrote in a Facebook post titled 'Temporary Suspension of Demonstrations'.

He further disclosed that NSSF had assured him that they were working with officials from the Ministry of Lands to ensure quick release of title deeds of the land they had sold to Embakasi residents.

"We have received written assurances (attached below) that the NSSF is working with the Ministry of Lands to process the documents for our Embakasi East people as fast as possible,

"I therefore temporarily suspend the planned demonstrations to give them a chance to fulfill their written pledges," Babu added.

He went on to assure his supporter's that he would still personally visit the offices to get the verbal assurance from the managing trustee of the NSSF one Anthony Omerikwa.

The legislator had taken to Facebook on Thursday, October 3, to rally his constituents to storm the NSSF and Ministry of Lands offices and kick out the official over the delay of the issuance title deeds.

"I will be leading residents of Embakasi East Constituency in a peaceful demonstration that will begin at the NSSF where we will eject the Chairman General Julius Karangi at 9:30 am," Babu wrote.

He had also threatened to set heir seats on fire in order to push them into action.
