5 Senior Employees Nabbed over Rai Boss' Death

Five senior employees of the Rai Cement Factory in Kericho were arrested on Saturday, October 5, in connection to the death of their boss.

The five loading supervisors were taken into custody to answer questions over the death of General Manager Chetan Vyas on the night of 22nd and 23rd September 2019.

They were arrested by DCI detectives following extensive forensic investigations of the residential house and entire vicinity where the victim was murdered.

DCI announced the suspects as Azim Salim (38), Osman Noor (24) Mohamed Shahid (38) Yacoob Wali (24) and Shabdin Ismail (29) were assisting in the investigations.

Companies which hire security services from foreigners were urged to seek clearance from the DCI, which is done in coordination with Interpol.

This came barely a week after a watchman was arrested in connection to Vyas' death.

Kericho County Criminal Investigation Officer, Stephen Chacha, stated that the watchman was captured by CCTV cameras removing a ladder believed to have been used by the assailants to gain entry into and out of the factory premises, from the perimeter wall.

The lifeless body of the cement boss was discovered inside his bedroom.

“They lifted the tiles from the roof, gaining access to the house through the kitchen store before proceeding to the bedroom, where Vyas was sleeping,” Kericho Deputy Police Commander Patricia Nasio stated.

His hands and legs were bound with a rope that was also tied around his neck.

Nasio further stated that the suspects had disconnected the exterior CCTV cameras but their images were captured by those installed inside the house.

The police boss further noted that the gangsters made away with some bags whose contents were unknown.
