Mudavadi Attacks Raila After Secret US Trip

Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader, Musalia Mudavadi came out with a damning statement against ODM leader Raila Odinga on Saturday, October 5, 2019.

The former vice president issued a statement following a two-week trip to the US, where he sought to garner support.

Speaking on the upcoming Kibra by-election, Mudavadi made it clear that the constituency's next legislator was not a foregone conclusion, alluding to ODM leader, Raila Odinga's popularity in the area.

"No constituency should be treated as if it was a doormat or an instrument in someone’s hands. Kibra cannot be anyone’s doormat as is being suggested. Nor is it anyone’s private property, their house, or their bedroom," read an excerpt of Mudavadi's statement.

The constituency is regarded as the backyard of ODM and the immediate former MP, the late Ken Okoth was elected through the party. In the past, Raila represented Kibra when it was under the larger Lang’ata constituency.

He went on to urge the residents of Kibra to reject candidates who splashed the cash around in a bid to buy their votes, a statement which was seen as a masked hit at McDonald Mariga.

"Nor should we think that we could buy this constituency. As usual, we are witnessing cash mongers flaunting, in Kibra, massive sums of money, whose sources remain smoky, mysterious and suspect. This money is symptomatic of everything that has gone wrong in our country. It signifies a slave owner mentality that says, “I can buy you.” This “people ownership” mindset of the slave master must be defeated," he stated.

The former NASA alliance member went on to lambaste Raila, describing him a spent force, whose last shot was used up in 2017.

Mudavadi also addressed Mwende Mwinzi's ambassadorial nomination, making it clear that her dual citizenship should not bar her from assuming office.

“How is it possible that Kenya has employed a Chief Executive Officer from Europe (Jonny Andersen) to head Kenya Airports Authority without anybody asking the foreigner to relinquish the citizenship of his country, yet we deny Mwende’s appointment?” he posed.
