The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives on Thursday, October 10, reported that they had arrested suspects who escaped after a robbery in Eastleigh that took place on Saturday, October 5, 2019.
Police Constable Simon Mwaniki, who had been on the run since the robbery at 8th Street, Eastleigh, was arrested by Pangani detectives in Kahawa West.
PC Mwaniki of Kayole Police Station was arrested alongside PC Kelvin Marangu of DCI Kasarani and a civilian identified as Martin Kithinji.
The detectives were acting on intelligence leads which directed them to intercept a Toyota Caldina occupied by the three.
They were interrogated, with Mwaniki leading the detectives to his two houses at Kayole Junction and Hurlingham.
Fake currency worth Ksh 29,000 and Ksh 88,000 in US dollars were recovered in the process.
30 live rounds of ammunition and 15 speed governors were also found alongside recorded compliance certificates.
Detectives also discovered forged driving licenses and suspicious documents including NTSA stamps, Public Service Vehicles (PSV) certificates and work permits.
Further investigations continued as the sleuths planned to arraign the suspects in court on Friday, October 11.
Mwaniki had managed to evade arrest during a police raid at a hotel in Eastleigh on Saturday, October 5.
Six officers had reportedly robbed two businessmen who raised the alarm that caught the attention of law enforcers near Barqwo Lodge.
Four (Wilson Cheruiyot, Daniel Korir, Alex Kandie and Jean Baptist Esome) out of the six suspects were arrested and Ksh3.5 million was recovered. The fugitives identified as PC Mwaniki and the gang's informer escaped.
According to the businessmen, the suspects entered their room and demanded them to surrender the cash at gunpoint.
Nairobi police boss Philip Ndolo confirmed the detectives were found in possession of 38 bullets and communications gadgets.
