Police Arrest Colleagues Conducting Ksh6 Million Robbery

Police officers responding to a Ksh6 million robbery at a hotel in Eastleigh area, Nairobi were surprised to find colleagues carrying out the crime. 

Six officers had reportedly robbed two businessmen who raised the alarm that caught the attention of law enforcers near BARWQO Lodge, 8th Street 2nd Av. Eastleigh.

Four suspects identified as Wilson Cheruiyot, Daniel Korir, Alex Kandie and Jean Baptist Esome out of the six suspects were arrested and Ksh3.5 million was recovered. The fugitives identified as PC Mwaniki and the gang's Informer escaped. 

The rogue officers are reported to have been attached to Kayole Police Station. 

According to the businessmen, the suspects entered their room and demanded them to surrender the cash at gunpoint.

Nairobi police boss Philip Ndolo confirmed the detectives were found in possession of 38 bullets and communications gadgets.

The suspects were detained at Pangani Police Station awaiting arraignment in court on Monday.

Alarm has been raised about the involvement of security officials in robbery, with Kenyans calling for a crackdown on rogue officers.  

NTV on August 29, 2019, reported that a police officer was captured by CCTV cameras trying to steal a woman's mobile phone in Joska, Roysambu.

The woman identified as Wanjiru was at a bar when a group of detectives raided the pub and unplugged her phone from where it was charging, also making away with an unknown amount of money.
