Police Go After Babu Owino in Major Crackdown

Inspector General of police Hillary Mutyambai, on Wednesday, October 16, launched formal investigations into Embakasi East MP Babu Owino over ethnic remarks.

This follows instructions sent out by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Noordin Haji on Wednesday night to have the vocal legislator alongside Suna East MP, Junet Mohammed and ODM loyalist Ishard Sumra investigated.

"The inflammatory pronouncements made on October 14, 2019, at DC grounds in Kibra Constituency by the political leaders, border on incitement to violence and ethnic profiling," read an excerpt of Haji statement.

The three leaders are to be presented before the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) on Thursday, October 17, to record formal statements as part of the investigations.

"As the ODPP we condemn such conduct and in the public interest upon receipt of information regarding two incidents of such criminal conduct, I directed the IG to commence investigations," read a section of Haji's press release.

Haji also affirmed that Malindi MP, Aisha Jumwa and Geoffrey Okuto Otieno were in custody over the disruption of a political meeting  at Mshongoleni 

Pendukiani area, that led to the fatal shooting of 48-year-old  Gumbao Jola.

The rebel ODM MP  her bodyguard spent the night of Wednesday, October 16 in detention as they await a court decision on October 17 on their bail ruling.
