Popular Musician Recounts Surviving Brain Haemorrhage [VIDEO]

A flamboyant and endeared Kenyan musician shared in detail, how he cheated death after a scary head condition in September 2017.

On April 13, 2019, David Mathenge, alias Nameless, in an interview posted on YouTube, narrated a harrowing experience he faced when he battled subarachnoid haemorrhage.

This is spontaneous bleeding in the brain, caused by the bursting of an artery.

"I was in an intense board meeting when I felt a piercing sensation in my throat then I felt it groping into my head. My friends were so worried when I informed them I wanted to leave. When I reached my car door, I felt something was off," Nameless who is married to fellow musician Wahu Kagwi stated.

The Sinzia hitmaker went on to explain that the pain he felt in the following 30 minutes was excruciating. However, he could not give as it was not the first time he had faced death. In March 2003, he was involved in a grisly road accident in which his best friend Issah Mmari alias E-sir passed away in.

"Every time I have been in a near-death situation, my first reaction is to say No! I will not go away. I have been on a car accident and in this case, as I found out later, I was reciting the same phrase while holding my head," he opined.

His close friends and fellow musicians Daddy Owen and Hubert Nakitare alias Nonini rushed him to the High Dependency Unit (HDU) at Aga Khan University Hospital where he was admitted for 10 days before being moved to a normal ward.

The award-winning star went on to state that he was to be taken to theatre but thanked God that his condition was not complicated.

"The doctor encouraged me to be grateful that I was alive as 50 per cent of people with such a condition do not make it to hospital and 50 per cent who undergo surgery do not survive," he emotionally recalled.

At the time of his admission, everything he had achieved in life was unworthy.

"First, it made me realize that sometimes we take things too seriously and life is short. You stress about so many things. People say Bora Uhai like a joke, but for me, it is the most important thing ever," Nameless echoed.
