Nairobi County Assembly turned into a war zone when Speaker Beatrice Elachi ignored court orders and stood by her decision to suspend Clerk Jacob Ngwele.
The Standard on Friday, October 25, reported that Elachi, who has been at loggerheads with former Majority Leader Abdi Guyo, claimed she was not going back on her action.
Ngwele moved to court and obtained papers blocking the speaker's action to suspend him for one-month after he told members of staff not to report to work.
"A conservatory order is hereby granted restraining Speaker Elachi, whether acting directly or through third parties from illegally or irregularly reconstituting the membership of the county assembly whether at the behest of the governor of Nairobi, ODM Party, Jubilee Party or any other person or authority pending hearing of the application on November 11, 2019," the order read.
Elachi, however, denied receiving the injunction issued by the Employment Labout and Relations Court.
"I have not received the injunction. Once I receive it I will comment on the same," Elachi mentioned.
Elachi accused the clerk of sabotaging county operations over what she termed as personal reasons.
"Throughout the duration of the compulsory leave, the clerk is restrained from visiting the assembly precincts until such a time he is scheduled to return to work or otherwise notified. If termination is found to be warranted according to the results of the investigations, he will be notified," Elachi narrated.
The suspension was fuelled by the replacement of majority and minority leaders in the county assembly which was done by Jubilee and ODM parties.
The Daily Nation on Tuesday, October 22, reported that Jubilee had replaced Majority Leader Abdi Guyo with Maringo Hamza MCA Mark Ndung'u.
ODM, on the other hand, had replaced Minority Leader Elias Otieno with Nairobi West MCA Maurice Gari.
