Sonko Rivals Kipchoge, Unveils 50 Pacesetters for Marathon [PHOTOS]

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Saturday, October 26, revealed that he would be assisted by 50 pacesetters for the annual Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon which will be held on Sunday, October 27.

Taking to Twitter, the first-time governor explained that he would be seeking to defend his title and hoped to break his record.

"A team of 50 Nairobi County Government staff will be my pacesetters in this year’s Standard Chartered corporate relay challenge, where I'll be defending my title and hopefully break my own record. Nairobi County Government is an official sponsor of the event," he wrote.

Netizens were quick to draw comparions between him and Eliud Kipchoge who made headlines on October 12, 2019 after running a marathon in a record time of 1:59:40.

While some encouraged him, others dismissed the county boss as a joker and wondered whether he was serious.

"Pacesetting is slowly losing meaning. Now what is this?" Bramwel Ouma posted.

"I can be your pacesetter in matters development. Don't you think its time you name me your deputy," Anyang Otanga wrote.

"Wishing you well, running for a purpose is meaningful. Just asking what was your previous record?" Sinteria Lemaian commented.

"Are you trying to be the next Kipchoge? Just forget it. You can't," Mercy Chepkemoi wrote.

"You could have all those pacesetters but you still won't break any record," Sheila Moraa stated.
