CS Amina Snaps on Citizen TV After Marathon

Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed on Sunday, October 27, addressed the allegations that the netball team had been abandoned by the Kenyan government while in South Africa.

Speaking during an interview at the StanChart Nairobi Marathon, CS Amina that the government had supported the team warning that they would take action against false information.

“We worked very hard to ensure that they (netball team) were able to travel. If there is a story out there that is negative and that is not correct, we will take action,”

“Today (Sunday) there is another story and we’ll take action again. You can’t continue doing wrong to an institution or an individual, it doesn’t work," she maintained.

The Sports Minister added that she had a proven track record and her integrity had never come into question.

“I want to say this: I don’t have to prove anything as Amina Mohamed. I have nothing to prove. I have been in government for 35 years now and I’ve never stolen a penny, my integrity stays intact, try and attack me on that and you’ll get nowhere,” she stated.

She added that she was open for discussions with any aggrieved parties.

"I keep an open-door policy as should be in public offices. Wednesdays and Friday mornings are open for engagement to all.

"We are ready to give the information, come get the correct information so that we don’t continuously give Kenyans the wrong impression about the Ministry of Sports," she stated.

Her remarks came after the ministry came under criticism on social media after Kenya's netball team was allegedly stranded in South Africa.

While appearing before a parliamentary committee on Thursday, October 24, CS Amina sternly denied the reports, going on to claim that they had worked overtime that the team's tickets to attend the continental tournament were prepared in time.
