Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa, on Sunday, October 27, reached out to Deputy President William Ruto with a special message for President Uhuru Kenyatta.
While accompanying the DP to tour Nyeri County, Jumwa urged Ruto to pass her message to the president urging him to ignore various suggestions contained in the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
She stressed that the Parliamentary system of government supposedly recommended by the BBI would further marginalise some communities.
She further argued that with the system, major communities would dominate leadership positions from regime to regime.
She, therefore, wanted Ruto to advise the president to reject such a proposal reminding him that his mandate was given by the ballot.
"Kenyans are entitled to vote. There are forces out to clip the people's powers and since we believe the deputy president speaks to the president, we are sending him to Uhuru, whom you elected in large numbers, that people need the freedom to elect their president.
"We do not want tribes that have large numbers to be allowed more seats in Parliament. That is giving smaller tribes a raw deal," she told the congregation with the DP in presence.
She further disclosed that she would support the deputy president in his 2022 presidential pursuit vowing to ensure that Uhuru honoured his deal with Ruto.
Other leaders who were present at the event also vowed to rally the public into rejecting the BBI initiative if it would call for the change of Constitution to create positions for some individuals.
The leaders included MPs Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira), John Muchiri (Manyatta),Jane Kihara (Naivasha), Kimani Ngunjiri (Bahati), Gichuki Mwangi (Tetu), RehemaJaldesa (Women Rep, Isiolo), Mugambi Rindikiri (Buuri), Halima Mucheke(nominated), Rahab Mukami (Women Rep, Nyeri) andGichugi Mugambi (Othaya).
