KCAA Swings Into Action After Silverstone Air Accidents

The government, through the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), has been forced to act after complains over a  number of accidents involving a local airline, Silverstone Air.

In a statement released on Monday, October 28, the authority revealed that it had opened investigations into the airline shortly after a plane on its fleet lost a wheel mid-air.

"KCAA wishes to inform the public that the investigation of the incidents and accident is being conducted by the Air Accidents Investigations Division (AAID) of the Ministry of Transport.

"KCAA is currently carrying out an audit inspection on the airline after various incidents and an accident involving Silverstone Air Services. The Audit is being carried out in order to determine the level of compliance with the current Civil Aviation regulations and their own company approved manuals and procedures," read the statement in part.

The aircraft that made an emergency landing landed on Monday, October 28 at Moi International Airport Eldoret after losing one wheel during take-off.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, a representative confirmed that the airline had cast its attention towards the airline following complaints from a section of Kenyans.

"They are normally routine inspections. KCAA has to look into the issue in order to ensure the incident does not occur again.

"Right now, Silverstone are under attention because of the incidences from last week. As soon as the incidents occur, our team is also alerted and they go to see whether the air services are being offered in relation to how they are supposed to be," explained the representative.

She further explained that the investigation is carried out by AAID and KCAA and a report is forwarded to the institution's director who then decides the next move.

On Monday, October 28, a passenger aircraft operated by Silverstone Air lost a wheel during take-off from the Lodwar Airstrip.

The plane then made an emergency landing at the Moi International Airport, Eldoret.

Before that, talk was rife that another plane operated by the same airline had damaged another plane at Wilson Airport while taxiing.
