11 Ex- Governors Uhuru Appointed to His Govt

President Uhuru Kenyatta's appointments into public offices in his second term have raised eyebrows with Kenyans expressing mixed opinions to what has been described as 'rewarding loyalty'.

The president has often come under pressure for appointing politicians 'rejected' by the electorate into plum government jobs at the expense of the experts and the youth of the country.

Our news desk took a look at the former governors who lost in the 2017 general elections and out of the 25, at least 11 found a way back into plum jobs within president Kenyatta's administration.

Top of the list was the former Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua. Mbugua who lost the Jubilee nomination in the area to the current county head Lee Kinyanjui was appointed State House Comptroller.

Then there is the ex-Marsabit Governor Ukur Yatani: The soft-spoken ex-governor is now one of the most powerful people in the country with two crucial ministries under his care.

Yatani was on January 5, 2018, appointed Cabinet Secretary Ministry Of Labour and Social Services and then was added responsibility for the National Treasury following the suspension of CS Henry Rotich.

Peter Munya: The former Meru governor found his way into Uhuru's cabinet after losing the seat to his former senator, Kiraitu Murungi.

Munya currently serves as the Cabinet Secretary, Trade and Industrialisation.

John Lonyangapuo's predecessor at the helm of West Pokot county Simon Kachapin was rewarded with a post as the Chief Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of Energy.

Just like Kachapin, former Tana River county head Hussein Dado found space at the Ministry of Devolution as the Chief Administrative Secretary.

Other governors found comfort after being appointed chairpersons of various boards within the government agencies.

Ex-Kitui governor Julius Malombe currently serves as the chair to the Kenya Water Towers Agency, Dado Godana who lost the Tana River seat is the chair to the Moi Teaching and Referal Hospital.

The Ex-Nandi county boss Benjamin Cheboi chairs the Agricultural Development Corporation, while his Vihiga counterpart Moses Akaranga is the chair to the National Environment Trust Fund under the Ministry of Environment.

Joseph Ole Lenku's predecessor David Ole Nkidianye is the current chairperson to the National Water Harvesting and Storage Authority and finally, the former Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu is the chair to the Water Services Regulatory Board.
