Jubilee's Kibra candidate McDonald Mariga coined a new way to win the hearts of Kibra residents when he spoke on pushing for the legalisation of bhang in the country upon his election as the area legislator.
While speaking at his final rally in Kibra on Sunday, November 3, Mariga wowed the crowd when he spoke on the banned substance in Kenya.
According to Mariga, there existed a hypothesis that bhang was a cure to the deadly disease, cancer.
"Mnataka tuongelee mambo ya Shada. Shada mmeskia inacure cancer. Hio lazima tuipush. Hatutaki mambo ya shada ya kupiga watu. Muniingize bunge tuskume mambo ya shada.
"(You want us to speak on bhang legalisation? We have all heard that bhang cures cancer. However, we do not want you to misuse bhang by becoming aggressive and violent to people after using it. Vote me into parliament and I will push for its legalisation," Mariga buoyed the jubilant crowd.
The ex-footballer also promised to change the lives of Kibra residents, while poking holes at Raila Odinga's campaign rally for Imran Okoth on the same day.
"We want to reduce the number of police stations in Kibra by creating more job avenues. They (ODM) have abused us but we will continue reforming lives.
"However, I have inside information that residents have skipped the ODM rally. All of them have joined us here to make history by having a record attendance. Let's employ the same during the elections and we will win by a landslide," Mariga trolled.
The late Ken Okoth, former Kibra MP, succumbed to cancer on Friday, July 26, at the Nairobi Hospital.
During his tenure in Parliament, the MP wrote to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Justin Muturi, concerning a proposal to decriminalise the growth and use of marijuana in the country.
Okoth sought help in crafting the Marijuana Control Bill 2018, noting that he already has a working draft. Under his proposal, amnesty measures would be instituted for the expunging of criminal records against those with previous marijuana use convictions.
After he passed away, Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko handpicked Embakasi East MP, Babu Owino, John Kiarie ( Dagoretti South ) and Charles 'Jaguar' Kanyi (Starehe) to lead the charge to legalize marijuana in Kenya.
