Man Impersonates Female CS, Sells 2 KDF Vehicles

A man was on Friday, November 15 charged at a Kisumu court after he was arrested for impersonating Defence Cabinet Secretary Rachael Omamo and selling two government vehicles to unsuspecting buyers.

Maurice Wasonga appeared before Kisumu’s Senior Resident Magistrate Martha Agutu for the mention of his case in which the CS was also listed as a witness.

The Standard reported that he was charged with four counts of impersonating a public officer and obtaining money by false pretence.

According to the court papers on April 24, 2017, within Kisumu Central Sub County in Kisumu County, Wasonga impersonated  Omamo and falsely presented himself as a person employed in public service and tried selling a government motor vehicle belonging to the Ministry of Defence.

It is alleged that on that particular day, within Kisumu County together with his friends, he obtained Ksh800, 000 from Bishop David Hellingtone by selling him a vehicle from the Kenya Defence.

On February 16, 2018, within Kisumu Central, he again impersonated CS Omamo and again claimed to be an employee in the defence ministry but factually he was not an employee of any public service office.

On February 22, 2018, Wasonga obtained Ksh 270, 430 from Nyongesa Khisa after selling him a motor vehicle belonging to the Kenya Defence Forces.

Wasonga was also accused of creating fake documents with the intention of conning people.

The accused was arrested on Agust 30 2019 and first appeared in court on September 5 before Chief  Magistrate Julius Nga’arng’ar where he denied the charges.

He was then released on a bond of Ksh300, 000 plus one surety of similar amount and the prosecution led by Stephen Nyakundi had lined up five witnesses including CS Omamo and Wasonga's victims.
