Scuffle at Uhuru's Private Meeting as Waititu Gets Blocked Again

Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu 2019 mishaps continued to pile during President Uhuru Kenyatta's private Sagana meeting with Mt Kenya leaders on Friday, November 15.

According to a report by K24 TV, the outspoken governor was reportedly temporarily blocked from accessing the event's venue before gaining entry a while later.

The meeting that was attended by some 4,000 people, was an invite-only type and very few attendees were elected leaders.

It was, however, not immediately clear why Waititu was temporarily blocked by the security officials and thoroughly frisked.

Shortly after he got cleared, Waititu was widely cheered as he made his way into the meeting.

Other groups of people who attended the meeting included village elders, Kikuyu musicians and Nyumba Kumi officials who started trooping into the Sagana State Lodge as early as 6 a.m.

Cabinet secretaries, as well as principals secretaries, were not present and journalists were blocked from entering the venue.

On Sunday, November 17, The Standard writer Roselyn Obala revealed that all the attendees were thoroughly frisked to ensure nothing leaked from the meeting.

"The Sagana meeting had leaders frisked, phones taken, people even removed watches and rings to ensure that whatever was going to be discussed in that forum was kept there," she explained.

In the meeting, the president cautioned the leaders present about the dangers of the political paths that they were taking.

"I want to take you back to 2007 up to where we are today. You know the problems we had. Some of you here are still very bitter about what happened," he spoke.

This was, however, not the first time the governor was denied access into a meeting Uhuru was expected to grace.

Waititu was, on Sunday, October 20, left red-faced during Mashujaa Day celebrations at Mama Ngina Waterfront Park in Mombasa.

Governor Waititu attended the event but was sidelined after he sat at the VIP section.

The Kiambu County boss arrived earlier than other governors and moved around the VIP section looking for a seat until he settled on one reserved for Mombasa Woman Representative Asha Hussein.

A few minutes later, some attendants approached Waititu and had a quick chat with him, after which he appeared to receive a phone call and walked out of the dais.
