Moses Kuria Digs Into Waiguru Over Citizen TV Interview

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria on Tuesday, November 19 took to Facebook to call out Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru over what he termed as being fake.

Waiguru, who was a guest on Citizen TV's Newsnight, had been asked by the show host Waihiga Mwaura about the challenges facing Mt Kenya residents, to which she responded that the problems weren't specific to the region but were experienced countrywide.

Her remarks irked Kuria who claimed the governor was out of touch with reality.

"Dear Mrs Anne Mumbi Waiguru-Kamotho. Contrary to what you said on Citizen TV tonight, Mt Kenya grievances are real. The people are yearning for development," Kuria stated.

"The once-thriving economy is in tatters. Our cash crops including Kirinyaga rice have collapsed," he added.

He went on to allege that the region experienced water shortages despite being a source of major rivers and dams.

"There is a water shortage in all our 10 counties. The youth have no jobs. Milk farmers are getting Ksh 17 per litre because unscrupulous Kenyan companies are flooding the market with milk they have bought for Ksh 10 per litre in Uganda," Kuria went on.

The firebrand legislator criticised President Uhuru Kenyatta's deal with his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni that opened Kenya's border to products from the neighbouring country, to the detriment of local farmers.

"The East African Protocol is being used to finish off our eggs, poultry and milk farmers after subjecting them to unfair competition from Uganda," he protested.

Kuria ended his rant by taking a swipe at the governor by offering to take her on a meet-the-people tour of Kirinyaga County so that she could see the grievances for herself.

"When you have time, let's arrange I take you on a one day tour of Kirinyaga county you see for yourself," he suggested.
