Putin's Hand in Uhuru's BBI - Rift MP

A Rift Valley MP who is also an ally to Deputy President William Ruto alleged that President Uhuru Kenyatta's trip to Russia had another motive, other than being an official trip.

On October 23, 2019, Kenyatta attended the 4th Russia-Africa summit and met President Vladimir Putin who wrote off over Ksh2 Trillion African debt.

However, Emurua Dikir MP Johana Ngeno claimed that the trip was all about the Building Bridges Initiative.

On Wednesday, November 20, the KANU legislator claimed that Kenyatta had gone to benchmark on how to stay in power, considering that Putin had served as both president and prime minister in Russia.

"Putin was president from 2000 to 2008, then became PM from 2008 to 2012 under then-President Dmitry Medvedev. The two then switched positions again with Putin ascending back to power as president in 2012 and Medvedev as PM.

"That's what Kenyatta wants to do with BBI. He met Putin to learn the formula," Nge'no alleged while speaking with Kenyans.co.ke on phone.

On Sunday, November 17, while at a church service in his constituency, the MP warned Kenyatta that he would fight the BBI report to his grave, as it was out to prevent Deputy President William Ruto from ascending to power in 2022.

"I have no problem with Raila Odinga as BBI is Kenyatta's project. Kenyatta should know that Kenya is not Uganda or Rwanda where Yoweri Museveni and Paul Kagame respectively have stayed in power.

"He should go to Uganda if he wants to stay in power. In the 1970s, some people wanted to change the constitution to prevent Daniel Moi (then VP) to be president after Jomo Kenyatta. The situation is repeating itself. They know Ruto will win in 2022 under the new constitution," Ng'eno claimed.

The BBI report has not been presented to the president yet, even as a number of politicians heaped pressure on Kenyatta to release it.
