The National Police Service on Thursday, November 21, launched a nationwide manhunt for two detainees who escaped from jail.

According to reports by Capital News, the two had been remanded at Ruiru Police Station awaiting arraignment on violent robbery charges.

They have since been identified as Wyclif Kori Achola and Denis Atitwa Atenya.

The latest reports revealed that the two suspects escaped at around 5 a.m. according to a police report filed under Occurrence Book No. 14 /20/11/2019.

It is alleged that the two detainees overpowered a police officer before scaling the perimeter wall of the cell and fleeing.

“The report office personnel, heard one prisoner namely Wyclif Kori Achola, knocking the cell door shouting that he had a running stomach and required to be escorted to the toilet,” read an excerpt of the OB report.

According to the minute-by-minute account of the events that transpired, Achola turned violent when he was being escorted back to the cells and was joined by his accomplice who helped him overpower the officer before escaping.

“While he was closing the door cell for him to go back inside, the said prisoner jointly with the second prisoner namely Denis Atitwa Atenya, pushed the door back. They both overpowered, the officer, they came outside the cells and strangled the officer who fell. Both managed to climb the cell wall and escaped away,” read a section of the OB.
