The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), found itself on the receiving end of angry members on Monday, November 25, after issuing an update regarding the launch of its new party headquarters in Nairobi.
Disgruntled members trooped to various social media platforms to air the dissatisfaction over what they termed as being sidelined by their own party.
"Due to the state event on the BBI scheduled for tomorrow November 27, at State House Nairobi, our scheduled event to inaugurate the new party headquarters and the launch of our digital membership registration has been pushed to Thursday, November 28. Invited guests are reminded to carry their cards to the event," read an excerpt of the party's statement.
The last part of the statement irked the party's loyal supporters, with many questioning the criteria used to determine those allowed to attend the event.
"I'm an ODM youth leader from Baringo County and haven't received such an invitation," Kalu Lepariyo posted on Twitter.
Countless others voiced their concerns after word got out that the launch of the new headquarters in Lavington would be an exclusive affair with invite-only attendees.
"I have not received my invitation yet. What is not happening?" Shete Maghanga posted on the party's official twitter page.
In July 2019, ODM Chairman John Mbadi disclosed that the party had purchased the property as part of its rebranding strategy, with an eye on the 2022 General Election.
The party's communications director, Philip Etale, was unavailable for comment by the time of publishing.
