How Uhuru Stole the Show at Bomas

President Uhuru Kenyatta launched the BBI report at the Bomas of Kenya on Wednesday, November 27.

The head of state wore African-themed shirt clothes as opposed to his other guests at the function.

His deputy William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga wore well-tailored crisp suits. Kenyatta's Ankara shirt had a blend of yellow, white and grey, and he matched it with a black pair of trousers.

President Kenyatta was adhering to his own directive to government officials on Thursday, October 17, to wear made-in-Kenya outfits.

During the Bomas event, Kenyatta urged Kenyans to maintain peace and work towards a better nation. He cracked the crowd when he recalled what transpired during the Kibra by-election.

"I have a lady friend in Kibra who was always affected by-election violence. However, she informed me that it was peaceful and that she had benefitted from the money circulated in the constituency during the heated campaigns," President Kenyatta spoke.

He further rallied the leaders to focus on uniting Kenya and avoiding wasting time on divisive politics.

"There is no country that can progress with a five-year plan. We must have a 20-year plan and above to resolve our issues. We should focus on politics that drive the country forward. We should ask ourselves why after elections we spend three years on development, then the other two are wasted on politics.

"Personal ambition is not a bad thing. We all have ambitions to be leaders, MPs, presidents. Don't those ambitions overshadow those things that will help you achieve them? Only God knows our thoughts and intentions. He is the one who knows the next president of Kenya. Why should we focus on wrangling for that position, yet we have to solve the present problems?" Kenyatta urged.

He went on to state that BBI was a foundation towards a richer and splendid Kenya, one which the future generation would be proud of.

"We are setting precedents for the next generation using BBI and to have the residents respect each other in the future. They all should have in mind that they are safe before and after the elections. Let the people read the report and bring forth their opinions," he affirmed.
