Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has launched accusations that the unveiling of the BBI report at the Bomas of Kenya was designed with a view to embarrassing Deputy President William Ruto.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Thursday, November 28, the angry Khalwale intimated that the program of the day was designed with a view to humiliating the Deputy President who had initially expressed his opposition to the BBI report.
Khalwale took issue with what he referred to as a deliberate protocol hitch that saw ODM leader Raila Odinga give his address after the DP had given his, and right before the president gave his.
"Where did you ever find a situation whereby the Deputy President of Kenya invites a mere citizen like Khalwale' to speak after him? Former PM ni raia (he is just but a common citizen)," Khalwale had earlier told K24 TV.
He also took issue with the arrangement that saw Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohammed take charge of the program for the day, stating that it was a well-oiled scheme from the start to denigrate the DP and his team that had expressed opposition to the BBI report.
"Where did Junet come from? How did he get the chance of becoming a master of ceremony for a state function? They got it wrong right from the word go," he stated.
Khalwale told Kenyans.co.ke that DP Ruto tried his best to remain calm at the event despite the humiliation that he was being subjected to.
"Ruto rose above the pettiness. When asked to invite the former PM, he did it obediently, and when told to give his speech, he gave a reconciliatory speech that was aimed at moving the country forward," Khalwale told Kenyans.co.ke.
"The problem facing this country is impunity. It is impunity that allowed DP to be reduced to 3rd last speaker when he was meant to be the 2nd last. It is also impunity that allowed Junet to be the MC when it was unprecedented," Khalwale regretted.
He also praised Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen whose address caused an uproar and was booed down by the guests attending the BBI report release at the Bomas of Kenya.
Murkomen had claimed the speakers chosen to address the audience was skewed, as leaders allied to the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga had been given priority and were using the opportunity to criticise their opponents.
"I want to laud the Elgeyo Marakwet Senator for what he said and what he did. He spoke for many Kenyans," Khalwale supported him.
