Njenga Karume's Daughter Buried Abroad Over Lack of Funds

Jane Mukuhi Wahito - daughter to the late tycoon Njenga Karume, is set to be buried in Israel on Wednesday, December 4.

An article first published by The Standard stated that she was to be laid to rest miles away from home due to financial constraints.

Karume's daughter passed away on November 27, after a long battle with cancer of the bile duct.

The late Wahito was the fifth born in the family and the last born to Karume and his first wife, Maryanne Wariara.

According to an unnamed family member, their kin was to be laid to rest at Bahan Kibbutz, Israel, as they couldn't afford to ferry her body back home.

"It was a unanimous decision made by family members, including her children and in-laws that she be buried in Bahan Kibbutz. This is because two months ago, we had a difficult time in ferrying the body of our niece. We don't want to go through that experience again," the anonymous family member disclosed.

The source also claimed that the late Mukuhi had discussed the matter with immediate family members before her death.

The niece mentioned - Michelle Karume, passed away a pauper, after begging the family for months assistance in seeking life-saving treatment.

A letter she had penned during her final days told a tale of a young woman desolately battling cancer while pleading with her family to lend a hand, The Standard reported.

In a chilling reference to her impending death, Michelle narrated how none of her family members was willing to pick her calls as she struggled to afford basic medication such as pain killers, a story eerily familiar to her late aunt's.

However, another family member allegedly claimed that the decision to bury Ms Wahito in Israel had nothing to do with finances but rather a delay by the board of trustees in releasing the money.

Njenga Karume's estate was valued at Ksh17.8 billion in 2018,  and his family has been embroiled in a fierce inheritance battle ever since the former assistant minister died on February 12, 2012.
