Raila Addresses Fallout With Ruto [VIDEO]

ODM Party leader Raila Odinga, on Monday, December 9, addressed his seemingly strange relationship with Deputy President William Ruto during an interview with NTV on Monday, 9, 2019.

Speaking to NTV's Smriti Vidyarthi, he addressed his differences with the deputy president and claimed to harbour no ill-will towards the DP.

"I have no personal issues with Deputy President William Ruto. We've worked together before and whenever we disagreed, we've made it public that we do not agree on a certain issue but there are no personal grudges," he disclosed.

The AU special envoy reiterated that the BBI report was in no way meant to set himself and President Uhuru up for lofty positions after the 2022 General Election.

He also responded to claims that he was set to take another stab at the presidency during the 2022 General Election.

During the one on one interview, the former PM made it clear that he had no designs in regards to running for the top office again.

"I have never said I have intentions for 2022. We want a strong united country for the future generations," he stated.

Pressed on whether his latest statement meant that his party would field another candidate, he coyly responded by affirming that ODM would definitely field a presidential candidate in 2022.

However, the prominent leader refused to disclose any information regarding the mysterious candidate, adding that when the right time comes, the party would follow the proper procedure in selecting its flag bearer.

During the expansive interview, the former PM opened up on his day-long talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta that birthed the Building Bridges Initiative, going on to reiterate that the report was meant to tackle Kenya's fundamental problem of divisive politics.

"We had a firm conversation before the handshake. The first meeting lasted 13 hours and the second meeting lasted six hours- a total of 19 hours," he stated.

"The BBI report is meant to address Kenya's problem. I don't think that any sane Kenyans can say that there is no problem in Kenya," the ODM Party leader added.
