Eric Wainaina Mocks Sonko With New Song [VIDEO]

Veteran Musician Eric Wainaina on Tuesday, December 10, caused ripples on the internet after he recorded himself dedicating a song to embattled Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.

The 'Nchi ya Kitu Kidogo' singer accompanied his blunt lyrics with a piano melody as he urged the Jubilee administration to clean up the jails in the country, warning that most of the actors in government would eventually end up.

"Clean up the jails Jubilee because that's where you are going, make it good make it good because you are going home," sang Wainaina.

Wainaina then turned his attention to governor Sonko who was arrested on Friday, December 6 and arraigned in court on Monday, December 9, over graft charges.

He urged the governor to follow suit and clean up the jails as he taunted him in his lyrics that he was destined to be there for a while due to the damning evidence that the DPP disclosed he had against him.

"Clean up the jails Mr Sonko because that's where you are going (X3), make it good, make it good because you are going home," the musician sings in a rather solemn tone.

Wainaina is not new to controversy. In 2001, his song 'Nchi ya Kitu Kidogo' that he composed to highlight the permeation of corruption into all spheres of the country was banned President Daniel Moi's administration.

It was a scathing indictment of governmental corruption in the country, with the main message being for the citizens to shun the retrogressive culture of receiving and giving bribes.

The government banned his song from being played on radio stations and had police follow him around even when he was invited to play at the Kenya National Music Festival, where the then vice president the late George Saitoti would be in attendance, Eric was harassed on stage, according to an interview he had with BBC.

Currently Wainaina is a music teacher at the Brookhouse International School in Karen Nairobi.
