How Uhuru Blew Chance at Cementing Legacy - Moses Kuria

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria on Thursday, December 12, lifted the lid on how President Uhuru Kenyatta blew his chance at cementing a lasting legacy as head of state.

Taking to Facebook, the lawmaker explained that the president stood a chance with the National Youth Service project which was under the Ministry of Devolution.

He argued that NYS, which was revamped during President Kenyatta's first term was headed by incompetent people.

Kuria maintained that the youth service which had recruited thousands of youths was more promising than the Big 4 Agenda.

"I sympathize with President Kenyatta. If there was a project that could have transformed Kenya more than the Big 4 combined it was the NYS as originally designed. The president meant well," shared Kuria adding that he entrusted the program to a leader who drove it to the ground.

In the last decade, NYS has been marred with numerous scandals.

In the first NYS scandal, Ksh791 million was allegedly lost, in which Selesio Karanja, a supply chain assistant, was convicted.

Businesswoman Josephine Kabura, who claimed to be Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru's hairdresser, became infamous when the fraud was exposed.

The second NYS scandal happened in 2018 where Public Service and Youth PS Lillian Omollo was arrested alongside other minister officials and businessmen. The case is still pending.
