A grisly road accident on Monday, December 16, involving a 14-seater matatu and truck has left two people dead.
According to reports first published by the Daily Nation, the incident took place in Litein, just 32km from Kericho Town at around 3:30 p.m.
A senior traffic police officer, while speaking to the publication, claimed that the matatu was heading to Kericho before it rammed head-on into the oncoming truck.
"Two people died on the spot while several others are admitted to Kericho County Referral Hospital, the officer revealed.
"Those in the hospital are in serious condition having sustained multiple injuries," he added.
Eyewitnesses claimed that the driver of the matatu registered under Kisii Prestige Sacco was attempting to overtake multiple vehicles when the tragic incident occurred.
The truck driver Zinadine Zaid, on his part, claimed to have tried to signal the oncoming matatu driver to get back to his lane with little success, the Standard reported.
"I tried to even drive to the side of the road and allow the Matatu to pass but the driver followed me to the side," he narrated.
Traffic along the Kisii-Litein-Bomet road ground to a halt following the horrific accident.
The latest fatal accident comes just a day after irate Kenyans torched a matatu that had veered off the road while attempting to overtake a truck, and ended up pummelling into 2 boda boda riders, killing them on the spot in Kapsowar, Eldoret.
