Waiguru's Minister Resigns

Kirinyaga County Gender and Youth County Executive Committee Member Lynette Wanjiru Njeru resigned a year after she was appointed to the position.

Information reaching Kenyans.co.ke news desk indicated that she halted her duties as CEC on Wednesday, December 18.

“It is with recognition of the magnitude of responsibility bestowed upon me that I tender my resignation from the office of County Executive Committee member for Gender and Youth effective January 15, 2020,” read her letter.

Her resignation comes days after Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru raised concerns on the performance of Ms Njeru's department.

Among some of the concerns she highlighted included; the output for Kaitheri Linen Factory being below the agreed targets, the launch of the gender-based recovery not materialising and lack of significant initiatives undertaken by the youth.

"Given that you are the County Executive Committee member responsible for effective and efficient service delivery of your department, I hold you accountable for your overall underperformance," read the statement.

Further, the governor directed the CEC to show cause on why disciplinary action should not be taken.

On her part, Ms Njeru expressed her gratitute at having served at the department.

"I am thankful for the constituency that I have served, I am thankful for their receptiveness, I do not fit the average public servant profile but that not withstanding, they have been patient, they have listened to me.

"I am grateful that they have accorded me the space and the time to grow and serve them," she concluded.
