A butcher at Kianyaga in Kirinyaga County was suspected of killing his wife, a police officer, on the night of Thursday, December 19, 2019, before committing suicide.
Samuel Kiama allegedly stabbed his wife Carol Mbote multiple times, leading to her death at their home within Kianyaga Police Station, according to a report published by the Daily Nation.
Residents stated that the couple had argued, only for them to find Mbote dead in the house in the morning hours of Friday, December 20, 2019.
"It is not known why the couple quarrelled. We were shocked to hear this morning that they were dead," a resident told Daily Nation.
According to the butcher’s employer, Charles Kamau, suspicion ran high after Kiama failed to report to work and thus followed up on his whereabouts.
"When I failed to see Kiama, I knew something was wrong and immediately dispatched two workers to go to the police lines and check on him.
"On arrival, the workers knocked on the door of his house but there was no response,” remarked Kamau.
After the door went unanswered, Kamau and Kiama’s neighbours decided to break into the house, where they found him hanging from the roof while his wife’s body lay in a pool of blood.
"The butcher was a humble person. We could not believe it when we heard that he had killed his wife, who was attached to the crime office at Kianyaga Police Station.
"They never had issues since they started living together last year,” remarked a neighbour.
According to Kirinyaga East police boss, Anthony Wanjuu, investigations are ongoing.
"We are piecing together details to establish the motive behind the killing," he told the media.
