Controversial Legislator Behind Waititu's Woes

Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has been a haunted man ever since corruption allegations got him barred from office and his deputy, James Nyoro stepped up to run the affairs of the top office.

His case, however, took a new twist when Kiambu MCAs voted to impeach him, a motion that Waititu followed on TV from Nakuru County on December 19, 2019.

The man behind Waititu's historic ouster was Biashara Ward MCA Elias Njoroge.

Reports from Daily Nation on Saturday, December 21, indicated that Njoroge, who never saw eye to eye with Waititu, was employed as the man to sell the impeachment agenda to the public.

He led the formation of the Okoa Kiambu drive that collected over 200,000 signatures calling for the end of Waititu's tenure as Kiambu governor.

The legislator admitted to the publication that he had indeed been approached and that he had acted as the team leader and strategist in the impeachment plan.

"Waititu has shown that he only wanted to be a governor for the purpose of stealing and misusing public resources. He rides on populism to cover his dirty tracks," he stated.

It is not the first time that Njoroge has attempted to impeach a county leader.

In July 2019, he marshalled fellow MCAs against Kiambu County Assembly Speaker Stephen Ndicho, where 65 out of 92 representatives signed his impeachment motion.

The speaker survived the attempted ouster but reports indicated that the MCA moved a motion in October 2019 to have Ndicho replaced.
