On Saturday, December 21, Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko posted photos and a video of him visiting patients at the Pumwani Maternity Hospital with a cornucopia of gifts in tow.
The post was shared by many Kenyans who reported that the governor had decided to surprise the patients for Christmas.
However, Kenyans.co.ke can now confirm that the video and photos posted by the governor were similar to those he had posted during the festive season in 2018.
A spot check on Sonko's Facebook activity in 2018 revealed the same video and a keen inspection showed that some of the money the governor had given the patients was in the form old Ksh 1,000 notes that were demonitised.
In the video, the Nairobi governor, who was wearing a Santa Clause costume, conversed with the patients as he handed them gifts.
Among some of the gifts that the patients receive include; diapers, flour, basin and household shopping.
While captioning the video, the governor requested his followers to extend their generosity and kindness to neighbours and the community.
"As we usher in this festive season to celebrate the birth of Christ Jesus, I wish to encourage you all to extend your generosity and kindness, however little, to your neighbours and community," Sonko shared the video on December 21, 2019.
Some of Sonko's supporters thought that the videos and photos were current, hence, congratulated the governor for his good job.
"Sonko still serving humanity despite all the hurdles. Today he surprised mothers at Pumwani Maternity with early Christmas gifts. Let us appreciate our governor," Charles Kamakia stated.
"I just love mike Mbuvi Sonko. Giving isn't riches but deeds of a good heart. Just like Nicodemus, may the good Lord reward ur generosity," David Mush commented.
"Sonko Sonko Sonko. Forever you are blessed. Even if they tarnish your name, your still remain one in a million," Wangui Muraguri.
Efforts by Kenyans.co.ke to reach the county's communication director were futile.
