Deputy President William Ruto, on Friday, December 27, formally welcomed former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, to the Jubilee party.
Taking to his official twitter page, he posted a video of the Wiper party leader pledging his loyalty to President Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2022 general election.
"Welcome man Stevo to Uhuru's Jubilee, the progressive, focused and an all-encompassing political movement. Our priority is the accelerated implementation of the Big4 & Jubilee transformation manifesto," read an excerpt from the deputy president's tweet.
However, DP Ruto went ahead and signed off as 'William Ruto, Deputy party leader', leading some to question whether his welcome message was satirical or sincere.
The doubts were further backed by Kalonzo's public tiff with former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama.
According to the Standard, Muthama had on December 11 declared that he would spearhead coalition talks between Ruto and his Wiper party leader.
“I will soon convene a meeting of all elected leaders including MPs and MCAs as well as opinion leaders so that we dialogue over this matter. Our (Kamba’s) political chapter with ODM leader Raila Odinga is closed. We will negotiate with Ruto, Musalia (Musalia) and Moses (Wetangula),” he reportedly stated.
This resulted in a tweet sent out by Kalonzo denying any allegiance or planned coalition with DP Ruto.
“In the light of recent conversations and speculations about working with the DP, please note that these speculations are malicious, the former Mwingi North MP tweeted.
“They are a desperate attempt to drive a wedge between me and the President and they have failed. Remarks by individuals should not be attributed to me," he added.
DP Ruto's latest tweet was thus seen as a statement of solidarity, in which the Jubilee party's second in command maintained that the party was united and one could not support just a section of the party but rather the whole.
