Ngunjiri Wambugu Sets Tough 2020 Challenge For Uhuru

Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, On Tuesday, December 31, set a test challenging President Uhuru Kenyatta's leadership of the Jubilee Party.

In a statement, Wambugu challenged the head of state to take over the party and steer it towards unity hinting of more rifts if the status quo prevails.

For a better part of 2019, the party was marred with wrangles between Tangatanga faction that is allied with DP William Ruto and Kieleweke that supports the president.

"I expect Jubilee will get more disciplined, mainly because I expect the President will be more involved as he has promised. Some people will shape up or ship out.

"I expect a re-organization of political formations at the national level, based on ideologies. Those who want to unite Kenyans across the political divide will be more active, determined and aggressive in pushing our message of unity, while those dividing Kenyans for individual 2022 political advantages will get pushed back at, so much harder than in 2019," Daily Nation quoted the legislator.

He further urged that those cleared to vie for the party's top positions should be aligned with Uhuru's goals in economic, unity and the fight against corruption.

He also called on Kenyans to support the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) arguing that it was prepared with the aim of solving economic and social problems.

"Anyone who is not aligned to this - whoever they are - will have a bad year as far as Jubilee is concerned. This is something we can be certain of.

"The BBI is about Kenyans talking together [sic]. We will make sure they do and that those who don’t want us to talk are told Kenya is bigger than they are. They will either shape up or step back," he explained.

Wambugu declared himself Kenyatta's point man on Wednesday, December 11, after reports alleged that he was behind the chaos that surfaced at Ruto's Nyeri event on Sunday, December 8, 2019.
