US Reveals Next Move after Deaths Reported in Lamu Attack

The US government has revealed its next move after deaths were reported after an attack was conducted by Al Shabaab militants in Manda Bay, Lamu on Sunday, January 5.

In a statement by the US Africa Command, a military wing responsible for military relations with nations and regional organizations in Africa, confirmed those who succumbed included one US service member and two Department of Defence contractors.

In addition, two DoD members were wounded. The organisation disclosed that the wounded Americans were currently in stable condition and had been evacuated.

US Army General Stephen Townsend who's the commander of the US Africa command stated that they would bring to book those responsible for the attack.

"As we honour their sacrifice, let's also harden our resolve. Alongside our African and international partners, we will pursue those responsible for this attack and al-Shabaab who seek to harm Americans and US interests.

"We remain committed to preventing al-Shabaab from maintaining a safe haven to plan deadly attacks against the US homeland, East African, and international partners," the Army General declared.

He further stated, "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of our teammates who lost their lives today (Sunday, January 5)."

The Kenya Defense Forces on Sunday January issued an update stating that five of the attackers had been killed.

"1 PKM gun, 4 RPG launchers, 4 AK 47 rifles, 1 hand grenade and assorted ammunition were captured.

"Terrorists are known for propagating false and misleading information in an attempt to grab headlines and feed their egos. Their contorted plans have not and will never succeed," KDF stated.
