Kenya's Trending Topics on Tuesday 7, January 2020

On Tuesday, January 7, self-declared National Resistance Movement (NRM) leader Miguna Miguna was scheduled to arrive into the country. 

What started with a flight from Canada however experienced a mishap as he was barred from boarding a flight while connecting in Germany.

Kenyans tracked his highly-anticipated return online making him the number one trending topic for the better part of the day.

Eventually, his flight took off without him on board over what the authorities termed as a Red Alert issued against the lawyer.

The airline that Miguna was travelling on, Lufthansa Air issued a statement stating, that Kenyan Authorities had requested they bar Miguna from boarding.

ODM leader Raila Odinga marked 75 years, on Tuesday, and Kenyans took to social media to wish the politician a Happy Birthday.

A number of leaders sent their birthday wishes to Raila describing him as a visionary leader and a mentor.

The hashtag made the top trends on Twitter as Citizen TV anchor Jeff Koinange was also celebrating his birthday.

The celebrated journalist turned 54 and it was during his live morning radio show on Hot96 FM that he got to interview Miguna moments after being prevented from boarding his flight to Kenya.

Other notable personalities who were celebrating their birthdays today include, Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga and media personality Julie Gichuru

On Google, the most searched keyword by Kenyans was 'Al Shabaab Attack Kenyan Base' following the attack on the Manda Bay military base in Kenya that occurred on Sunday, January 5.

Kenyan authorities have not confirmed if any Kenyans were killed in the attack. The US government through the Pentagon identified the service member killed in the terror attack as Army Spc. Henry Mayfield Jr. of Evergreen Park, Illinois.

Ann Kananu Mwenda

Ann Kananu Mwenda was also highly searched from Monday, January 6. That was after Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on nominated her for the role of Deputy Governor.

Since she was not an individual in the limelight, many were curious to find out who she was. An interesting tidbit on Mwenda is that she is well trained in disaster management and security, has undergone active shooter and hostage training and was once a telephone operator at the Kenya College of Communications Technology (now Multimedia University)

Ice or Foam?

If you are on WhatsApp, you've probably spotted on your friend's Whatsapp status or have beeb forwarded pictures of residents of Engineer Town in Nyandarua County interacting with what appeared some have hilariously described as "fallen clouds".

Initial reports indicated that blocks of ice had fallen from the sky forming the clouds. Some took pictures of the phenomenon while others could be seen touching the uncofirmed form of precipitation out of curiosity.

Some described it as snow while others were of the opinion that the white substance was foam from polluted water.
