Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu on Tuesday, January 7, questioned Deputy President William Ruto's honesty in light of his political overtures in 2020.
Taking to social media, the vocal legislator cast aspersions on the trust between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Ruto, on the basis of donations made at events attended by the DP in the recent past.
"On December 6, 2019, Sabina Chege (Murang'a woman representative) presented President Uhuru Kenyatta’s cash contribution at a function that Deputy President William Ruto was present at in Maragua, Muranga County. Today, January 7, Kanini Kega (Kieni MP) presented President Kenyatta’s cash contribution at a function that DP Ruto was at in Mathira, Nyeri County.
"Clearly the president is not sending his deputy president with contributions to functions (anymore)," he noted.
Wambugu, who has constantly been at loggerheads with Ruto, questioned the DP's claims of being the bearer of Uhuru's cash contributions at meetings where the president could not attend for one reason or the other.
"Has the DP been lying when he says that he has been sent by the president with a contribution - which is ironically always smaller than the DP’s own contribution incidentally [sic] - and why?" he posed.
Digital strategist Dennis Itumbi, however, would not have anything to do with Wambugu's opinions.
He sensationally claimed that Kieni MP Kanini Kega had been given money by senior officials at Harambee House to publicly paint DP Ruto in a negative light.
"Harambee House prefects sent one Kanini to Mathira with Ksh 500,000. The brief was simple. He should announce that it was from the president. Unknown to him, there was a direct phone call from Mombasa State House to Gachagua and everything was sorted," he wrote on Tuesday, January 7, 2020.
This call, Itumbi alleged, scuttled plans by the officials to paint DP Ruto as a man pushing his own agenda using the president's name.
"To quote one of the speakers, 'hii mambo ya zamani (those old methods) cannot stand the test of time'. As a result of the blunder in a political calculation, Kanini had a rough time on the political podium today," Itumbi concluded
