Video of Lawmaker Being Manhandled During Arrest Surfaces

Kisii County Assembly deputy speaker Davins Onuso is said to have caused a disturbance during his arrest on Wednesday, January 8, over alleged incitement and leading of illegal demonstrations in his ward.

In a video posted by the Daily Nation, Onuso is seen apparently trying to resist arrest as five officers gang up and frogmarch him towards their vehicle.

"Niache niende nyumbai (Allow me to go home), I am at home," Onuso is heard shouting as the officers pull him towards the vehicle.

"Get in the car, get in the car now," one of the officers orders while pulling him towards the vehicle.

At one point, the deputy speaker is seen trying to hide under the vehicle to evade arrest but the five officers get back up and manage to whisk him away.

According to The Standard, Onuso, who has since been released on cash bail, is said to have threatened to storm and attack Kiobegi DEB Secondary School Principal, Cyrus Ochoke, over the school's 2019 KCSE performance.

Further, he is alleged to have attended a funeral and incited the mourners to turn up in large numbers and storm the school.

Nyamache Sub-County Police Commander Stephen Obara stated that the accused had been released on a cash bail on Tuesday, January 8, and was to appear in court on Friday, January 10, but committed a similar offense.

"He has a right to be released on cash bail but he has proved to be a risk. Let's prevent further damage. He will appear in court tomorrow," Obara stated.

A similar situation was experienced on Friday, December 6, when Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko resisted arrest in Voi over misappropriation of funds.

The governor declined to board a chopper that was set to airlift him to Nairobi after DPP Noordin Haji ordered his arrest.

At one point, the governor was seen engaging in blows with the police officers.

“Nobody shall intimidate me, all these claims are aimed at bringing me down but they won’t succeed,” Sonko stated.

Elsewhere, a Primary School teacher from Ndooni Primary School in Endau zone, Kitui County was on Tuesday, January 7, burnt to death by parents whose children study at the school.

The teacher was allegedly burnt by the parents over what they claimed was poor performance by the students in the 2019 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations.
