Kanini Kega Lashes Out at Ruto's Allies in Bitter Rant

Kieni Member of Parliament Kanini Kega on Thursday, January 9, lashed out at politicians allied to Deputy President William Ruto for what he termed as disrespect to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The MP, who was accompanied by Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga and MCA Richard Kamuhia Karue, was speaking at Thegu River Ward, where he joined Chaka residents in condemning the impending destruction of stores and structures that were declared to be in road and railway reserves.

Referencing the political rhetoric that marred the burial of  Martha Kirigo, mother to Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua  he stated, "They came all the way from their counties to abuse Nyeri leaders and to make matters worse, they also abused President Uhuru Kenyatta.

"Are you (Nyeri residents) going to allow the president to be abused when you just sit and watch? They want to make it look like the government has two leaders," he stated.

Kega assured the residents that there was only one government led by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

"They want to make it look like they are the ones who are catering for Kenyans' needs while the president is doing nothing but I want to state that we only have one government under the president's leadership," he spoke.

He further warned Central leaders who were speaking ill of the president, stating that a lot of work had been done in the area.

"There are those who keep moving around Mt Kenya, claiming that they want to become the kingpin but we want to tell them that we only have one leader," he concluded.

During the burial of the Mathira MP’s mother on Tuesday, January 7, questions lingered after the Kieni MP delivered a cash donation from the head of state, rather than the DP who was also in attendance.

In an interview on Kameme TV on Wednesday, January 8, 2020, however, the MP explained the circumstances that led to him being sent by the president.

“On Friday, I happened to be in Mombasa and because I knew the president was there too, I decided to pay him a visit at State House, Mombasa.

“During my time with the president, I informed him that I was going for the burial of Rigathi Gachagua’s mother. As a friend of the Gachagua family for long, the president handed me Ksh 500,000 to give to the family,” he explained.
