Inside Wambui Collymore's Trend-Setting Establishment

Wambui Kamiru Collymore, wife to the late Safaricom boss Bob Collymore is in her own right, a success story.

Wambui runs an organisation known as The Art Space, a revolutionary art organisation based in Nairobi Kenya.

Opened in October 2015, The Art Space describes itself as an organization that has evolved from a commercial art gallery into an online space with regular shows in popular and sometimes unusual spaces around Nairobi.

According to the organisation's website, The Art Space is an independent creative space based in Nairobi, Kenya, which is comprised of a commercial art gallery and alternative show spaces.

Wambui's organisation boasts of linking African artists with the international art space where they receive both exposure and payment for their work.

"Through art exhibitions and informal conversations, The Art Space allows for growth, critique, and experimentation in the visual arts. The Art Space focuses on modern and contemporary art from Africa and links artists with the contemporary art market," her LinkedIn profile reads.

Wambui who is also an artist has been developing artwork around the themes of decolonisation, identity, and independence in Africa.

She pursued her undergraduate studies at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in the United States.

After that, she pursued a Master of Science Degree in African studies at the prestigious Oxford University in the United Kingdom.

Her space has played host to a number of trendsetting pieces of art, including those of Ugandan trendsetter Jak Katarikawe which have sold for millions of shillings and exhibited the world over.

Her space has played host to several other notable names in the African art scene including Patrick Kinuthia, Anne Mwiti, Joe Makeni, and Anthony Okello.
