Bob Collymore's Home Under Tight Security, Family Requests for Privacy

Following the demise of Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore on Monday morning, tight security was mounted at his home in Nairobi's upmarket, Kitusuru.

The compound was heavily guarded by private security, regular police and non-uniformed security officials, The Standard reported.

When the journalists visited the premises, they were told that the family needed some privacy and were instructed to visit Safaricom Headquarters along Waiyaki Way for a statement. .

"The wife has asked for privacy, the family will reach out to the media when they are ready to speak,” the security officials told them.

In addition, the media was forbidden from taking photographs or loitering around the home.

According to a statement from the mobile service provider, the Safaricom CEO passed away at his home on Monday morning.

He had been suffering from Leukemia and died at the age of 61.

"It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing away of Robert William Collymore CEO of Safaricom PLC which occurred at his home in the morning of 1st July 2019," read the statement from Safaricom.

Led by President Uhuru Kenyatta, citizens from across the country joined the family in mourning the CEO that many came to love and admire.

β€œIt is with a deep sense of loss that I have received the sad news of the death of Safaricom CEO Robert (Bob) William Collymore this morning. In this moment of great sorrow, my thoughts and prayers go out to his family, relatives, friends and the staff of Safaricom,” the president expressed in a statement.

"A distinguished titan, whose shrewd leadership at the helm of Safaricom was commendable. Collymore was exemplary, brilliant and courageous, especially in the manner he battled cancer,” Deputy President William Ruto weighed in.
