Former Jubilee Vice-Chair David Murathe laid bare what he construed to be Interior CS Fred Matiangi's role in the run-up to the 2022 polls.
Speaking to Anne Kiguta on K24 Punchline on Sunday, January 13, Murathe backed his assertions with the fact that Matiang'i was playing a key role in President Uhuru Kenyatta's administration.
Tasked to explain Matiangi's role in the 2022 succession politics, Murathe compared Matiang'i to the late Interior Minister John Michuki, fronting him as an indispensable figure in the future of the country's leadership.
"I think Matiang'i fits the bill. I think he is very firm, and Kenyans needed a Michuki. He is a no-nonsense man who does his work the way it is supposed to be done and this is what this country has been lacking," Murathe opined.
He, however, dismissed the option of having both Matiang'i and ODM leader Raila Odinga on the same team in 2022 as a matter that was inconceivable in the country's current political atmosphere.
"Has Raila said that he is running? Is it possible for two people from Nyanza to run for the presidency in this country?" he posed to Kiguta.
Murathe also cleared the air on Matiang'i' s role in the prevailing political issues which, in Kiguta's opinion, were against the law given that Matiang'i was a state officer.
"You people are forgetting that the docket of Cohesion and Reconciliation is a docket in the Office of the President under the Ministry of Interior and Coordination, of which Matiang'i is the head. If Matiang'i does these conventions to educate people about the BBI, he is well within his limits," Murathe stated.
He insisted that people were being dishonest by attacking Matiang'i for taking BBI report to the people since they were the very same people calling for the report to be made available to the public.
Murathe defended the CS's move to travel to Kisii alongside ODM leader Raila Odinga and Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru to populariSe the BBI report.
"After the event, Matiang'i held a leadership meeting after which everyone was given a copy of the report and told to go out and sensitise the public, a matter that will then cascade to the constituency and to the wards. The MCAs and the local leaders will have a chance to look at the document too," he concluded.
