Inside First Houses Completed for Uhuru's Project

The first batch of homes completed in President Uhuru Kenyatta's affordable housing project was handed over by the contractor on Thursday, January 16.

Two hundred and twenty-eight units were handed over with a total of 1730 units expected to be constructed at the Park Road, Ngara site.

Uhuru had promised 500,000 affordable housing units for Kenyans by 2022 as one of the main pillars of his Big 4 development agenda.

The Park Road project contains one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom units.

Housing and Urban Development Principal Secretary Charles Hinga was present at the hand-over ceremony alongside Government Spokesperson Colonel (Rtd) Cyrus Oguna.

"The Park Road Ngara housing project demonstrates the Govt's commitment to delivering affordable housing which is one of the Big 4 Agenda priority areas.

"The allocation of the housing units for this project is set to begin soon. The purchase allocation policy that will guide this process is complete and will be published across all media platforms," Oguna shared after the event.

Another batch of 260 houses for the Park Road project is scheduled for completion by June with the final batch set to be delivered by October 2020.

Amenities to be shared by residents of the Park Road project include parking, rooftop gardens, children playgrounds and a running track.

The provisional price for a one-bedroom, 30 square-metre unit according to the project website will be Ksh1,500,000.

Depending on the square-footage, two-bedroom and three-bedroom units are to range between Ksh2,000,000 and Kshh4,000,000.

The government issued a disclaimer, however, stating that the prices were provisional until the allocation process began.
