Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has literally taken matters into his own hands by ensuring President Uhuru Kenyatta's directive becomes a reality.
The president envisions that there will be a 100 per cent transition to high school, of students who completed their primary school education.
On Thursday morning, January 23, the CS traced a young girl, Hinnah Anjala, to her home at Mukuru Kwa Njenga slums in Nairobi.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Education, Magoha is set to travel with the student to Precious Blood School, Githunguri, where she will be enrolled.
The CS has been visiting students living in underprivileged areas and ensuring that they are enrolled in various schools.
Yet again, on Wednesday, January 22, he visited a student at her home in Kayole and escorted her to Machakos Girls High School, where she was enrolled.
Magoha had earlier stated that as on Monday, January 20, nearly 40 per cent of 2019 KCPE candidates, were yet to report to secondary school.
"This has to be done like yesterday, I will still move around the rest of this week but the multiplier effect is having everyone getting involved, all arms of government in terms of the police and chiefs, move along and ensure that the process is ongoing.
"There are still over 400,000 sitting out there who have not been admitted, yet the government has said every child must go to school and we will ensure that happens,” he stated.
1,075,201 students sat the KCPE examinations in 2019 but only slightly over 700,000 students had reported to their respective schools.
This led the government to extend the reporting period from January 17 to 24, to ensure that every learner had a chance to report to secondary school.
