Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha on Monday, November 18 released the results of the Kenya Certificate of Primary School Education (KCPE).
The release of the results was at the Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) headquarters along Dennis Pritt Road, Nairobi in a surprise move that saw various stakeholders in the education sector troop into the venue.
This comes only 17 days after 1,083,456 candidates sat for the national examinations. To access their results, candidates will be required to send an SMS message with the candidate's index number followed by KCPE (In capital letters) to 20076.

3:00 pm : Magoha, "The top candidate was Master Andy Michael Munyiri 440 of Damacrest Schools in Thogoto, 3 candidates tied in the second position, Flavian Onyango of Chakol girls, June Cheptoo Koech of Sangalo central primary school and Sean Michael Ndung'u of Kitengela International school scoring 439 marks."
2:58 pm: Magoha, "Top candidate scored 440 marks."
2: 57 pm: Magoha, "Female candidates performed better than the males in English and Kiswahili while the boys scored better in sciences.
2:56 pm: Magoha, "Candidates improved in English, Kiswahili, and Kenya sign language, Social studies and CRE. However, there was a slight drop in the sciences and mathematics."

2:48 pm: Magoha: "In terms of Malpractices, I am very proud to state that I don't have much to say. There were only two cases of impersonation. None of the exam papers leaked and there were no fake exam papers."

2:39 pm: Education PS Belio Kipsang thanked the candidates for taking the exams in a relaxed way.
2:34 pm: CEO Nancy Macharia states that Knec recorded the least number of exam malpractices ever, but was going to investigate 56 teachers for the same.
2:20 pm: Ag. CEO, Dr. Mercy Karogo asked the stakeholders to give a moment of silence for three examiners who lost their lives during the examination period.
1:30 pm: Professor Magoha arrives at Knec headquarters for the release of the examination results.
12:48 p.m.: Journalists drawn from various media houses wait patiently outside the Knec headquarters as officials scrambled to finalise the last-minute details of the release of the national exam results.
11:40 a.m.: News break of the intention by Education CS George Magoha to release the 2019 KCSE results. The Daily Nation reported that Knec officials on Sunday held a day-long meeting to prepare the release and sent an invitation to stakeholders in the evening requiring them to be present by 9 a.m.
Key facts
The test that took three days began on October 29 and came to a close on October 31.
The marking of the English composition and Kiswahili Insha papers was done by 6,440 examiners, who concluded the process on Friday, November 15.
The multiple-choice papers were marked through Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) technology, which processes marked data from candidates’ answer sheets using specialised scanning.
CS Magoha had on Thursday, October 31, stated that KCPE and KCSE examination results would be out before Christmas to enable parents to plan accordingly for the new year.
“We shall ensure before Christmas, the children know the secondary schools they will be joining so parents can start preparing earlier,” Magoha stated.
